Troop - Summer Camp Days 6 and 7

posted 29 Jul 2012, 12:41 by Daniel Cuschieri

This year's summer camp is now over, with the past two days being particularly busy.  Starting on Friday, the scouts started striking the various tents, packing the equipment and loading this into the trucks.  A good clean up of the site ensured that the place was left better than how it was found.  During these past two days, the Troop also found time to finish off the swimmer badge and continue on the life saver badge.  They also had the activities that each patrol organised in the weeks preceeding the camp.  The camp came to a close with the distribution of some proficiency badge certificates and the official camp badge that will be worn on the scout uniform for a period of one year.  Matthew Caruana was also awarded the Best Camper Award, after unanimously being chosen by the PLs and APLs for his hard work and positive and caring attitude towards all scouts. During a camp evaluation done before leaving the campsite, many scouts referred to this as 'one of the best camps ever'!  This would definately not have been possible without the input of all leaders, helpers, scouts and parents.

Photos of the Troop Section's camp are now available online under the Photos 2012 page of this site.  Alternatively, they can be accessed directly at https://picasaweb.google.com/smcscouts2012b/TroopSummerCamp20122128072012

Today was another busy day at camp!  The Troop programme started off with patrol activities, where each patrol organised its own programme for the morning.  The Stag patrol organised the Stag of the Year Award, while the Bulldog patrol worked on a bunker.  The Kestrel patrol started making a photo collage, while the Lion patrol did some wood carving.  This activity was followed by a talk delivered by members of the AFM.  In the afternoon, the Troop went to Ghajn Tuffieha for a swim, and also climbed down and up the clay slopes.  The day came to an end with a beach BBQ.

Today was an other day jam-packed with activities.  The Troop started off the day with English breakfast at the beach, together with some early swimming. This was followed by the building of patrol ovens, which were to be ued for the Wooden Spoon Cooking Competiton.  We also had some fun during the water games which were very well organized and fun.  The Wooden Spoon Cooking Competiton was the highlight of the evening, where the creativity of the different patrols flourished.

Welcome to another blog update!  Today, the scouts went swimming early in the morning where they worked on their swimmer and lifesaver badges.  We also took the commemorative group photo. Later on in the day we had an amazing campfire animated with various stunts and songs by the scouts. During the day we also did some badgework, and also built a hot air balloon which we hope to try out when the winds drop.  During this camp, we also celebrated various scouts' birthdays - Gabby, Christian, Liam and today also Miguel's.

Troop - Summer Camp Day 2

As happens in every camp we have, this night we had some rain!  However, it did not keep back the scouts from continuing with their intense and interesting day packed full with fun activities!  We started out with an English breakfast, after which the Troop went to Mistra Bay where we built sailing boats using wood, lashings, jablo and plastic.  Afterwards, we then used them to compete in a sailing competition that was held between the two teams. We then went back to the campsite and after a refreshing shower, had our dinner.  Later we went had a Fact or Fiction game, which was followed by a pancake making competition.

Hey! We're sorry for not posting yesterday, but the advanced party was very busy yesterday, setting up the campsite prior to the arrival of the Troop and Pack! Today was the official opening of the camp, which started with an opening mass which was animated by the scouts. The Troop and Pack then procedeed to pitch the tents and build their camp gadgets. We also went swimming and canoeing, which was an experience for the newcomers. After dinner we also had a night hike and treasure hunt in Mizieb. During this activity, many souls were shaken because of the repeated frights given to us by the leaders! :)  It was an amazing experience so far, and we are looking forward to the rest of the camp!
